The Brown Club of Silicon Valley’s mission is to foster a strong Brown alumni community in the greater Silicon Valley area. This is made possible by an all-volunteer board and executive committee, made up of undergraduate and graduate alumni of all class years who are passionate about building our Brown alumni community.

Open Roles:
Member-at-Large: Create and host engaging events for our alumni community! We’re looking for folks excited to host a broad spectrum of events that cater to different interests in our alumni community, including but not limited to the arts, career/life transitions, outdoors, young alumni, family-oriented, professional networking and more.
Estimated time commitment: 2 hours or less per month most months, up to 6 hours if you are hosting an involved event that month (includes monthly 30-minute executive committee meeting and above responsibilities for this role)
Community Service Chair: Create, plan, and host at least three local community service events annually. Help identify and contact local organizations for potential volunteer events. (Second Harvest Food Bank Cyprus Center has been a wonderful partner for 3 years and continues to draw strong interest from local alumni for community service events.)
Estimated time commitment: 2 hours or less per month most months, and approximately 6-8 hours if you are hosting an event that month (including monthly 30-minute executive committee meeting and above responsibilities for this role)
Ad-hoc event hosting: Have an exciting and unique skill or idea for an event you’d like to host for the Brown community but don’t want to commit to serving on the club’s leadership? Send us your idea, and if it is a good fit for our community, we can co-host it with you!
What to expect:
Depending on the role, you are volunteering to serve on the Leadership of the Brown Club of Silicon Valley for a 1 to 2-year term. Members are expected to contribute their ideas and energy to help plan, organize, publicize, and execute programs and events. Collegiality, commitment, a passion for Brown, and a sense of humor are a must!
Time Commitment:
Members must be able to attend 30-minute monthly meetings. Depending on the role, you can expect a time commitment of 2-10 hours a month during busier event seasons in the spring through early fall months. Leadership roles such as President and Vice President involve the highest time commitment.
Skills and interests:
Skills or interests in learning more about event planning, marketing and communications, social media engagement, strategy development, organizational and project management, and the ability to work collaboratively on a team are needed to be a successful Club of Silicon Valley leader.
